Daniil Trifonov’s new Deutsche Grammophon album Tchaikovsky has received rave reviews since its October 3rd release. The album was featured in the New York Times’ round up of “5 Classical Music Albums You Can Listen to Right Now.” The mention praised Trifonov’s interpretations, noting his serious yet nuanced approach to Tchaikovsky’s works, from the turmoil he brings to the C-sharp minor Sonata to his “endearing sense of wonder” in the Children’s Album. Gramophone adds to the accolades, declaring that Trifonov’s rendition of the Children’s Album “now claims reference-version status,” and that Tchaikovsky is an “excellently engineered and annotated release” and “a high point in Trifonov’s discography.”    

The Financial Times writes that Trifonov’s “virtuosity comes to the fore” in the concert suite from the ballet The Sleeping Beauty, where he plays with “a glittering, easy mastery.” The glowing review concludes: “It is rare for an artist of Trifonov’s calibre to commit so strongly to Tchaikovsky’s solo piano music, so this set makes an obvious recommendation.”
