Critical Acclaim for Mi Historia Americana – Sur

14.Oct.2026

Accolades have been pouring in since the October 2 release of Mi Historia Americana – Sur (My American Story – South), Trifonov’s autobiographical journey through the music of South America and the Caribbean. The new Deutsche Grammophon double album was featured in Gramophone‘s round-up of The Five Unmissable New Classical Recordings This Week, Cultural Attaché‘s October list of What I’m Listening to: New in Music, and was Presto Music and Qobuz‘s album of the week upon release.

BR Klassik praises the recording as “boundless,” writing in their review:

“Daniil Trifonov transforms the piano into a machine and plays the Second Piano Sonata by Alberto Ginastera with menacing precision. This turns Argentine dances and sounds from the Andes into a radically modern piano sonata. Here, tradition is not treated as a museum piece, but as the starting point for something new.”

NDR writes that “Trifonov impresses with brilliant technique and great sensitivity to the various nuances of South American music,” while Concerti applauds how “…a strikingly broad spectrum of colors, moods, and forms of expression unfolds…” in this recording. Gramophone writes “This […] newly unbuttoned Trifonov is even more thrilling to hear…[his] new-found association is a massive boon for the repertoire.”
